It's 1953. A genderfluid female detective lands in San Francisco to start a new life...passing as a man. When Mitch is tasked with finding a serviceman missing for years, she finds herself in a world of secret societies, post war paranoia, and a vibrant underground queer world. This story is set in San Francisco's fames Italian neighborhood of North Beach which, at the time, was home to a vibrant jazz and beat scene, misfits from everywhere as well as rampant corruption and criminality.
Mitch is the lesbian niece of famed detective Philip Marlow, who has been her mentor and guardian since she was a teenager. He doesn't understand or approve of her lifestyle and her desire to present as a man, which comes very naturally to her. It's a dangerous time when crossdressing was illegal and queer bars were raided by corrupt cops. While interviewing the mother of the missing serviceman, Mitch learns about her group of society matrons whose goal is exposing suspected homosexuals and communists.
Will Mitch be tempted to go undercover to expose those in the queer community for profit? Will she escape a bar raid without her secret being revealed?
