Day five of the Sappho Women’s Festival brought adventure, connection, and unforgettable moments. We set out on a breathtaking group walk through Skala Eressos, led by a guide whose deep love for the island transformed every step into a story. The views were dreamlike, the air fresh, and the company even better—until a stop in the village square introduced us to an incredible fusion of Lebanese and Greek flavors that we’re still thinking about.
That evening, the historic Cinema hosted a screening of Lesvia, a powerful documentary tracing over four decades of lesbian history in Eressos. Watching it surrounded by the very community it celebrated was a moving reminder of how this place has been a refuge, a home, and a living piece of sapphic history.
Then came the Alternative Fashion Show—a dazzling explosion of style, dance, and unapologetic self-expression. Designers, performers, and even a few four-legged stars lit up the runway, proving that fashion here isn’t just about what you wear, but who you are.
But the heart of the episode? The legendary Rock Swim. Joining the Skala Women’s Rock Group, I pushed past fear and doubt, stroke by stroke, cheered on by an incredible sisterhood of swimmers—and Christin from her kayak. Reaching that rock was a triumph, but the real magic was in the ceremony afterward, where women from around the world stood together, medals in hand, and shared their names and stories.
We explored hidden gems like Panagia Chapel, soaked up the sun with friends from Diva Destinations, and sat down with the festival’s brilliant organizers—Liz, Wendy, and Alesa—who revealed the heart and hustle behind this transformative event.
And then, a permanent memory: matching sand lily tattoos, symbolizing new beginnings and the love we celebrated here. As the festival’s final night unfolded under the stars, Sappho’s words echoed: “Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us.” Skala Eressos isn’t just a destination—it’s a legacy. And we’re already counting down until we return.
