tello films produces and distributes innovative, high-quality web series with a lesbian focus.
It has been our storytelling policy from our inception in 2007 that we would never have programming that ends with the death of a lesbian character. We have stood by that promise and are proud that we continue to support our community in authentic representation. We are the first lesbian network to have an emmy nominated series.
We believe in telling authentic stories about people whose lives are often ignored or marginalized. tello creates web-series specifically for the lesbian/queer community. This means that lesbian/queer characters are front and center. This means that the stories we tell respect the range and variety inherent in being queer. We were founded on the foundation of not killing lesbians. It was part of our mission statement from the start and we feel it is important for women to see themselves living.
Why lesbian stories? Because we love lesbians and we don't feel there are enough of them. Sure, sometimes lesbians are thrown in as side characters or show up on 'very special episodes' of your favorite shows, but lesbians and lesbian-specific issues are rarely at the center of mainstream television, movies, or web series.
At tello, we create great new web content that is intelligent but fun, timely but classic, and tasteful yet sexy, a whirlwind of classic ideas from a lesbian perspective, brave and challenging content with a lesbian twist.
We value the sense of community and belonging that our stories create.
We believe that authentic stories cross all borders. We are a global community. We never geo-block our content.
We believe that the web offers opportunities to tell stories in new ways. Television and film are traditionally one-way story-telling mediums. The web offers opportunities to tell stories in new ways. You might find parts of the stories we tell being played with on social media. You might find the stories we tell spread across the web on different platforms. You might find our stories being told in live events. We believe in challenging ourselves to experiment with the vast possibilities offered by the web for storytelling and audience engagement.
We value the artists, storytellers, and crews who make content for tello. We insist on paying the talented people who contribute to the series on the site. This includes having the majority of the subscription fees going back to the content providers.
We value our subscribers. We know that we can’t continue to make great web-series without subscriber support.
